Experimenting with the past in the present day and reconstructing the idea of vintage is Jaipur based label Vrisá who have recently launched their Spring 2020 collection at Ogaan, Malcha Marg in Delhi. Brain child of designers Rahul and Shikha and handcrafted with love keeping in mind our cultural heritage the collection, Vintage Garden, explores and experiments with brass and roses on the empty canvas of fabric. Inspiration for this collection comes from the multiple meanings attached to flowers. Rahul and Shikha also elaborate about their creative process, they add, ‘Our collections are motivated by our instincts to experiment rather than inspiration. Not losing focus from our vision, we start with a small design sample guided by intuition and instinct. We started this collection with a small idea to improvise and sustain our roots, on a small patch of fabric and embroidery, carrying forward the ageless craft and textiles of our country. In this collection, you will see diverse moods of flowers from the orchards and gardens of the world, seen in poetry, paintings and reality.’
The label started six years ago and has grown manifold with stores across three cities. Their strength lies in adding a touch of contemporaneity with keeping the traditional aspects intact. The designers further elaborate, ‘We have become more experimental over these years. Earlier the idea was to make clothing for an audience which we were sure will be well received whereas now we are confident that people will definitely show keen interest in the work that Vrisá is making. The very name Vrisá takes its meaning from Lord Krishna, which we felt has a connection to a wider cultural milieu. This stems from an understated and in-depth contemporisation of the traditional and classical. It signifies the influence of cultural and traditional values on our designs.’
