Waiting with Kalki Koechlin
With Director Anu Menon's Waiting already creating stir and garnering fantastic reviews since its release, we speak to protagonist Kalki Koechlin about her character and the grimm undertones of a narrative that deals with bereavement.
'When I read the script I loved the entire setting. It was based in the middle of a hospital where things are usually depressing however in this case there was a sense of humour and quirky moments that were shared between an old man and young woman who are completely opposite each other and under normal circumstances whose paths would never cross. It had a really nice feel to the whole story.'
'In terms of Tara —her character reminded me of a lot of people I know in Bombay. She’s very with the times, twitter savvy and active on social media and her whole life revolves around her phone. However even though she comes across as an emancipated, strong, urban woman she is lacking somewhere in her maturity when it comes to handling a tragedy or a crisis. So she goes through a learning process in the film. She has to come to terms with who she really is. And that’s what attracted me to the film and story. Other than direction Anu has a great talent for writing too.'
