'Shrine Empire inaugurates its new space in Defence Colony on 21 April 2026 with Process, an opening exhibition bringing together an expansive roster of artists in a special moment of convergence, on view until 23 May 2026. The show reflects on process as both method and meaning. The exhibition brings into dialogue a wide range of practices rooted in the South Asian context.
Unfolding across mediums, concepts, themes, borders, and generations, a testament to the gallery’s dynamic programming, the exhibition foregrounds the often obscured act of making as both method and meaning, shaping its artists’ distinct visual vocabularies. Conceived alongside the gallery’s own spatial transition, Process also reflects on the parallel work of building sustainable arts infrastructures, situating the act of making within a broader ecology of viewing practices.
Together, the selected works highlight distinct and unique methods across individual practices, tracing resonances, departures, diversities and points of simultanities that encompass the contemporary. The politics of practice, materiality and moments drawn from artists’ own personal experiences chart a shared sensibility, presenting a generative lens through which the practices may be encountered anew.'
The new gallery space has been designed by Vritima Wadhwa, Design Principal and Founder of Project 810. Speaking about the space, Wadhwa says: 'Spanning 2,400 square feet, the gallery is a practice in essentialism. The journey begins at a towering well, where granite treads and a warm wooden stringer guide the descent into the sanctuary of Shrine Empire. A mid-way landing offers a moment of pause. A curated corner for coffee and books, before the stringer leads further into the basement. Here, a cosy nook and mezzanine evoke the quiet intensity of a private library, tucked away from the city’s pace.
The main gallery unfolds with seamless concrete floors and an open-ceiling format where services are disciplined into a neat, rhythmic geometry. Adaptable lighting systems ensure the architecture remains a fluid partner to the ever-changing nature of the art. Beyond the white cube, a viewers’ lounge, private office, and meeting room are layered with handcrafted solid wood furniture, blending modern identity with tactile warmth. Acoustically softened and visually hushed, the space is a curated silence where art finds its truest resonance.'
Process will be on-view until 23rd May, 2026.
