His Playground
‘What is the world of art? Isn’t the world art?’ replies Tyler, India’s most infamous street artist, when asked how he was led towards creating art. For the first time, his artworks are gracing gallery walls. His untitled solo show began as a part of Mumbai Gallery Weekend and will run until Sunday, 7th March 2021. The works are spread across Method Art Space’s two locations, Kala Ghoda and Bandra.
Women of The World Unite
Tyler's pieces are all created on found objects off the street. For over 10 years, Tyler has boldly expressed his opinions on various matters using the city's streets as a canvas. When asked about his proclivity to use the world as his canvas, he retorts, ‘Why do brands put their ads on hoardings?’ His works, often political, are brutally honest opinions expressed in charming and mischievous ways, that relate and appeal to everyone who views them.
The artist’s work brings to the fore various subjects that define society and culture around us. ‘Would you describe risking arrest to make art as a form of sensibility?’ says the artist about his practice. Just like his amusing words, his signature stencil art style humorously reflect on various political, social, gender and caste based structures. Finally, when asked how he has been coping with the pandemic and his future, he asks, ‘How have you been coping under fascism?’
