Everest Base Camp

The current pandemic has certainly brought with it the added appreciation we now have for travel. We have realised how important it is to make the time spent outside the four walls of our homes count, and are looking for experiences that are worthwhile. With ever-changing restrictions and unpredictability of the lockdowns, people have begun to turn their attention towards travel within the country and the numerous opportunities we have to indulge in varied getaways locally. Everest Base Camp is one such unique travel experience.

This luxury camping resort, nestled away in the charming town of Mussoorie, sets a high benchmark for glamping in India. Founded by Jai Mittal in May of 2021, Everest Base Camp is a hidden gem, just a short picturesque walk away from the legendary George Everest House. Their tents are clad with hard wood floors and each has a king-sized bed, bringing new meaning to the word ‘camping’. While living in the lap of luxury, one can also enjoy the great outdoors. Gazing out at unaltered landscapes, trekking through Mussoorie’s native flora and fauna, and picnicking in the hills, are just a few of the many attractions of this Indian getaway. One also has the opportunity to discover the local town, where there is something new waiting around every corner. If travellers are looking to spend more time close to camp, they can choose from a wide array of activities, like mini golf, badminton, archery and croquet to name a few. And what better way to end the day than roasting marshmallows around a bonfire with the people you love.

In order to create a conscious camping experience, Mittal has taken various measures to ensure that his campsite is as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible. He emphasizes how the hotel “blends into nature”, and no trees were taken down during the construction process. The tents on site are also structured in such a way that there is minimal disturbance to the natural waterbed below. This further ensures that the microorganisms are not displaced from their natural habitat. As the serenity of the Mussoorie hills meets the luxury of glamping, Jai Mittal’s Everest Base Camp is definitely a rare experience no one should miss out on.
