Ankur Tewari on 'Akela' Tour

The singer-songwriter, Ankur Tewari, has added multiple roles to his resume over the years like poet, award-winning lyricist, entrepreneur and now music supervisor. He heads to North America for his first-ever tour of the United States and Canada after a gratifying and project-packed 2023. Ankur will travel the length and breadth of the continent with gigs in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Boston, Seattle, Vancouver and Toronto.

“This is the first time that I am taking my music to North America and I’m excited to play music from my album Akela to an audience that may just know me for my work on Bollywood films,” says Ankur of the tour. Ankur also recently performed at the globally renowned festival SXSW that celebrates the convergence of tech, film, music, education, and culture.

2023 was momentous for Ankur for a variety of reasons, including releasing an album Akela. Over the past year, he launched a new record label Tiger Baby Records with friends and Bollywood directors Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, released a children’s music EP Aaja Nindiya, served as the Creative Architect of newly-relaunched Coke Studio Bharat, was the music supervisor for projects like The Archies (Netflix) and Made in Heaven (PrimeVideo) alongside writing, show-running and co-directing his own show for OTT platform Prime.

About his latest album, Akela
One of the things that really stood out for me during that time was our relationships… How much do we give to those people, how much time of that time is quality time, what do we prioritize in life, what do we choose not to. This feeling of vulnerability that you’re completely alone even when you’re surrounded by people, ironically. One thing I learned during this time was to give a lot of importance to being in the moment, to learn to live in the moment, to be present. The sound of the universe is quite dramatic. I was listening to a lot of space sounds online and I feel like that’s reflected in the music. At the same time, I was getting very nostalgic so I have kind of taken inspiration from my favourites like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Doors and it’s all encapsulated in the album.
