Carpets transcend mere textiles; they are cherished heirlooms, passed down through generations. They are objects of history and tradition that keep the floors warm in the biting cold and soft against hard floors. Obeetee, a 105 year-old Indian carpet maker, upholds this legacy by weaving stories and heritage into each creation. Their vision is to celebrate stories from their homeland, India, and their latest collection, The Silk Route, does just that.
The Silk Road, a historical trade network, was one of history's most profound agents of cultural exchange. Spanning from China to the Mediterranean and branching into Central Asia, India, Persia, and the Arabian Peninsula, the Silk Route functioned for over 1500 years. Knitting together empires and peoples through commerce, religion, and art. Strategically positioned on the Silk Road, Ladakh became a key trade hub and cultural crossroads. Its people, language, and traditions still reflect a vibrant fusion of Indian, Tibetan, and Central Asian influences
Drawing inspiration from this ancient phenomenon, Obeetee brings to life the Silk Route Collection. The designs are a tribute to the spirit of exploration and craftsmanship that thrived along these routes. A blend of Persian strokes, Tibetan Geometry, and Mughalai motifs, the collection is a reflection of the influence of cultures immemorial, echoing from Ladakh.
While it seeks its soul from ancient cultures, the Silk Route has been reimagined for the contemporary home. Comprising vibrant palettes, refined craftsmanship, and eclectic designs, the collection offers a seamless blend of heritage with a bohemian spirit.

Highlighting the spirit of the collection, Ms. Angelique Dhama, CEO of Obeetee, said, “At Obeetee, every collection is a journey of culture, craftsmanship, and innovation. With Silk Route, we wanted to honour the spirit of exchange that shaped civilisations, while offering designs that feel at home in today’s evolving spaces. We are proud that this collection not only showcases the artistry of our weavers but also extends meaningful livelihood opportunities to the artisans of Ladakh.”
In creating this collection, Obeetee also deepened its commitment to nurturing local talent and sustaining traditional crafts. The company conducted a 30-day government-supported weaver training program in Ladakh, where about 50 female artisans were introduced to advanced Tibetan knotting techniques under the guidance of Obeetee’s master weavers. By equipping these communities with market-relevant skills, Obeetee strengthened the legacy of handwoven craftsmanship and laid the foundation for a sustainable artisan ecosystem.
At the intersection of heritage and modernity lies Obeetee; a name that, for over a century, has been deeply entwined with India’s identity as a global hub for artisanal excellence. From hand-knotting traditions dating back to the Mughal era to defining the visual identity of India’s new Parliament, Obeetee is not merely a carpet manufacturer; it is a cultural custodian. With every knot, every motif, and every loom, Obeetee weaves together the stories of artisans, communities, royal patrons, and national leaders.
