15 Years of Kunal Rawal

Celebrating the 15th year milestone of the brand, making a case for wearablea-art-like couture, Kunal Rawal emerges as a leading beacon of luxe minimalism causing a paradigm shift in the way the people view menswear. With kurtas that change color in the sun, sherwanis that glow in the dark and reimagined traditional silhouettes which are gender-neutral, the designer is always pushing the envelope with endless possibilities. With his signature multi-functional approach to design, Kunal showcased his new couture collection 'Dear Men' at FDCI India Couture Week, for which the designer drew inspiration from the medley of cultural and traditional influences prevalent in India. The collection caters to the whole spectrum of celebrations ranging from modern luxury to deep rooted traditional wear.. The designer has created a sartorial alchemy of ensembles which can be easily elevated or toned down, mixed or matched, or can even be worn to work.

Exhuberating flamboyance in a tone-on-tone embellished sherwani, actor Arjun Kapoor walked the ramp in the night’s highlight piece crafted with signature hems and ornamented with polki buttons. The actor was cheered on by Malaika Arora who was also wearing a Kunal Rawal number – a bandhgala with a cropped top and skirt which was fashioned with golden embroidery. Other notable people in attendance were – Anaita Shroff Adajania, Mohit Marwah and Antara Motiwala, and designers Arpita Mehta and Gaurav Gupta. A big believer in androgynous and gender-fluid pieces, the designer has experimented with structured pieces complimented by new silhouettes. The collection is replete with flattering garments for every form, shape and style. Jackets with built-in stoles, pattern play and intriguing textures that represents the brand’s DNA. The deceptively complicated sherwani looks allow for making statements by just putting on a single piece or deconstructing it into multiple looks. The eponymous label has explored their design sensibilities which are freeing of gender stereotypes – making fluidity the new norm.

Designing with every point of view, Kunal aspires to dress the diversity in its entirety. The show saw models of different ethnicities, age, height and body type sashaying down the runway in uniquely crafted and styled pieces from the collection. In addition to fulfilling needs varying from comfort, mood, functionality and wearability, this collection has been created to set the stage for meaningful interactions between the audience and our designs. Creating pieces for a market as diverse as India with clothes for different shapes and sizes, different moods and yet have a signature come through, the label ensures the wearer is having fun throughout.
