AIKYA, meaning unity, is a fusion of western silhouettes with Indian embroidery and techniques. Mayyur's expert craft blends a vibrant mix of colors and emotions that represent the LGBTQIA+ community worldwide. The collection will be showcased at Āve – Soho, amidst a backdrop of historic photographs of queer people from India. Creative Director Mayyur Girotra, adds that the collection pushed him out of his comfort zone, stating, "I dedicate a love letter to my LGBTQIA+ family through the lens of my craft. From concept to execution, Google team have been strategic partners in building my vision. I am thrilled to launch my first luxury pret collection, Aikya, which means unity. This collection is a celebration of diversity and the power of unity, which is more important now than ever before. The Aikya collection is a reflection of my belief that fashion can be a unifying force that brings people together, regardless of their differences. Each piece in the collection has been meticulously crafted to celebrate the unique beauty of different cultures and styles. From intricate embroidery to bold prints and vibrant colors, the Aikya collection is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of India, and the beauty of diversity."
Talking about what this collaboration means to him and what his work with Google stands for, he explains, "I am honored to have the opportunity to open for Pride Fashion Week in New York. This momentous occasion holds great significance for my label and represents a pivotal step forward in promoting inclusivity, diversity, and queer representation in the fashion industry. Opening for the show provides a platform for my label to gain international visibility and recognition. This exposure helps expand the reach of my label and solidifies its position as a champion of inclusivity and diversity. Opening for Pride Fashion Week signifies breaking barriers and challenging norms within the fashion industry and this definitely is the highlight of my year. I am extremely honored to have had this incredible opportunity to associate with Pride at Google and the Indus Google Network, which ultimately led to kickstarting for Pride New York. It was a journey that unfolded with passion, determination, and a clear vision of the special collection that would bring out the essence of pride. Pride has always held a special place in my heart, and I have long desired to design a collection that captures the essence of this vibrant celebration. I would even go to an extent to say that I do believe that I might have manifested this for myself because for as long as I can remember I did want to design, participate and showcase a collection for Pride New York that brings out the vibrancy and the ethos of not only my label but also resonates with the community. I was ecstatic when Pride at Google and Indus Google Network showed interest in my concept and they fully understood how I wanted to execute the show. It was a delight to bring my vision to life and contribute to the ongoing conversation of love, acceptance, and pride through the medium of fashion."
