Becoming Presented by Akar Prakar

'Akar Prakar inaugurated its new gallery space in New Delhi on 21 August 2026 with Becoming, an inaugural exhibition curated by Siddhi Shailendra, bringing together C. Douglas, Debasish Mukherjee, Ganesh Haloi, Jayashree Chakravarty, Leang Seckon and Manish Pushkale. On view until 17th September 2026, the exhibition reflects on artistic evolution as an ongoing process of transformation, bringing into dialogue six distinctive practices that have continually expanded the language of modern and contemporary art.

Unfolding across abstraction, memory, landscape, ecology, architecture and history, the exhibition foregrounds artistic practice as an ever-evolving process rather than a fixed destination. Bringing together artists whose work has developed over decades, Becoming reflects on creativity as one of continual discovery, refinement and reinvention, shaped equally by lived experience and instinct. Conceived alongside the opening of the gallery's new home, the exhibition also mirrors Akar Prakar's own journey, marking a new chapter while remaining rooted in its long-standing commitment to artistic practice, scholarship and cultural dialogue.

Together, the selected works reveal distinct visual vocabularies and individual methods of making, tracing resonances, divergences and shared inquiries across generations and geographies. Rather than seeking a singular narrative, the exhibition embraces multiplicity, inviting audiences to encounter artistic evolution as something lived, unfolding through sustained engagement with material, memory and form. Participating artists include C. Douglas, Debasish Mukherjee, Ganesh Haloi, Jayashree Chakravarty, Leang Seckon and Manish Pushkale.'
