Varana x Dastkar

Varana x Dastkar

Varana believes in redefining the application of heritage crafts in luxury design. Established in 2016 by Sujata Keshavan with an ambition of marrying the impeccable quality of Indian craftsmanship with the aspirational rigor of luxury fashion design. Varana celebrates history, craftsmanship, and culture. Sourcing their materials and producing collections with a sustainable approach, the brand's international design team works to take ancient techniques and motifs out of their expected artisanal crafts context and bring forth an elevated application into the luxury context.

The T-shirt series takes inspiration from traditional crafts existing across the Indian subcontinent, reinterpreted into a modern and edgy collection, using serigraph print on organic cotton fabrics. Varana’s mission is to sustain the ancient craft techniques as well as the livelihoods of the artisans who practice them. This limited collection line is an extended effort into providing continued relevance for craftspeople who possess extraordinary knowledge and skills and part of the sale proceeds from the T-shirt collection are donated to support artisans at Dastkar.org

About the Label
Sustainability is woven into everything that is done at Varana. In an age of fast and wasteful fashion, Varana strives to create something different: exquisitely crafted artisanal clothing that is made to last a lifetime. Sustainability and environmental impact are considered at every stage of our products’ journey: from design, to sourcing, to production, to end-of-life. It is of equal importance to Varana to be kind to the environment and to people. We exist to support artisans who are rapidly losing their jobs due to the rise of globalisation and industrial mass production by reinterpreting the vocabulary of traditional craft through the best of contemporary design.

Varana’s approach demonstrates that beauty and luxury do not have to come at a social and environmental cost. We prioritise design, quality and longevity, recognising the urgent need to transition to a circular economy. Varana’s ethos drives us to bring stunning craftsmanship from India to the world, whilst peacefully co-existing with our natural surroundings.
