In the conversation below, Shalin and Kirishan tell us about House of Malabaar’s beginnings, vision, design philosophy and much more.

What prompted you to venture into resort wear?
The founders, Shalin and Krishna brought their sensibility of taking things slow, conscious living and enjoying the present day to House of Malabaar. At House of Malabaar, we envision a world where the rhythm of the sea and the effortless grace of style converge, creating a tapestry of moments that transcend time. Our vision is to be the epitome of leisure, a beacon guiding individuals towards a life of intentional living and immersive experiences. We aspire to curate a collection that not only compliments diverse moods and styles but becomes an integral part of the stories woven by those who embrace the House of Malabaar lifestyle.

How do you stand out from other brands in the industry?
Our attention to detail, our love of the ocean, and our commitment to quality. We have launched men’s swimwear; our water repellent fabric is lightweight, and the inner mesh lining is buttery soft. We pride ourselves on having zero minimums; we operate on a made-to-order model, ensur- ing zero dead stocks and an expedited turnaround since we are primarily an e-commerce brand at the moment.

What are your future ambitions for the House of Malabaar?
We would love to be stocked in stores—both online and offline—the world over, and sometime in the future launch our own store at a beachfront in India or abroad. A major goal we have is to build our community. We are commit- ted to creating an environment where like-minded people and brands come together to work, collaborate, learn, and grow together. We are also working towards being a part of preservation projects (water preservation), which is a cause very close to our hearts.
